Expedition Gowanus is a multi-faceted education and design endeavor that seeks to teach people how to power their home with the sun, eat their front yard, drink the rain off their roof and clean and reuse their old dishwater.  Expedition Gowanus is the incorporation of sustainable low-tech solar energy, urban gardening, water catchment and waste water remediation systems on a retrofitted houseboat cruising the toxic waters of Brooklyn’s Gowanus Canal.  Expedition Gowanus marries do-it-yourself garage engineering with sustainable design principles and green guerilla activism to prove that a self-sustaining, clean and green home isn’t only for the richest individuals in our society but for anyone who’s willing to spend a few minutes after work and a couple Saturdays a month getting dirty and building it their self.
